This historic restrike, of a baseball advertisement from 1945, is both a wonderful piece of sports memorabilia and an illustration of the wonders of letterpress design. Originally printed when Major League Baseball was still segregated, the poster was advertising a game between the Baltimore Elite Giants and the Evansville Colored Braves. The "baseball" headline that appears at the top of the poster is produced from a single woodblock, which would have been carved well to then be used on countless posters or advertisements for baseball games since its initial design. With the headline already prepared, all that needed to be done was to fill in the details of the particular sporting event, as with the game ad reproduced here.
